In Sanskrit “Bhujanga” means Cobra and “asana” means Pose. Bhujgansana yoga pose is part of surya namaskar (Sun salutation). Basically, this pose reflects the posture of a cobra, so it is called as Cobra pose or bhujangasana. Bhujangasana cobra pose is one of the most important yoga poses to strengthen the back muscles and releasing back pain. In our daily routine usually, our back muscles don’t get exercise so we suffer from back pain, slip disc, stiffness in the lower back and other back problems. To avoid those back problems, we should practice Bhujangasana yoga pose.
Bhujangasana Cobra Pose Steps
- Lie down on your stomach. Place your hands besides your body with palms touching the ground.
- Keep legs straight and toes should be flat on the ground.
- Place your face on the ground and look straight in such a way that your chin touching the ground.
- Before doing the next step, inhale and exhale deeply and completely.
- Now inhale deeply and raise your upper body upwards with the support of the palms. Do not raise your lower back.
- Hold this position for a few seconds and breathe normally. After a good practice, you can hold this position for a few minutes.
- Now, while exhaling release this pose by coming in starting position.
- Repeat this for 10 times every day.

- Those undergone surgery of spine, heart, lungs or abdomen should not practice bhujangasana.
- Heart patients should not practice bhujangasana.
